Context
I wanted to explore whether shipment planning could be optimised for both operational efficiency and environmental impact.
The idea was simple:
If we can use truck capacity better and make smarter routing decisions, can we reduce the number of truck movements needed?
What I Built
I built a proof of concept from zero around route and space optimisation.
The logic considers factors such as:
Distance Truck utilisation Empty kilometres Consolidation opportunities
The Environmental Question
The eventual measure I care about is not simply whether the route looks more efficient.
It is:
How many truck movements can we eliminate?
Fewer unnecessary movements mean less fuel consumption and lower emissions.
Status
This is still a proof of concept.
There are no production-user results yet.
The next step would be to test the logic against real shipment data and measure whether it actually reduces the number of truck movements required.
Learning / Closing
Can we make the existing system work harder, so we need to move less?
